ST. LOUIS COUNTY TO PAY $5.8 MILLION TO SETTLE WASTE HAULERS' LAWSUIT

A trash dispute in St. Louis County has been resolved after seven years of debate. Waste Management, Meridian Waste Services and American Eagle Waste Industries will receive a settlement of $5,822,765.

According to St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger, "The case was settled for less than the applicable judgment amount and insurance will cover all damages less the deductible."

The case, American Eagle et al. vs. St. Louis County, originates from the last administration and has taken a great amount of county resources over the years.

"The matter has been resolved by my administration under terms more favorable than anticipated," the county executive said.

The dispute came to light once the three waste haulers felt a contract they had in place was violated when the county decided to take over waste-collection services.

The county’s self-insurance and excess insurance policies will cover the bulk of the judgment.
