Program Available to Subdivisions on Emergency Preparedness

A message from Michael D. Thiemann, Coordinator of Community Services & Disaster Preparedness in Metro West Fire Protection District . . .

I am the Coordinator of Community Services and Disaster Preparedness from the Metro West Fire Protection District in West St. Louis County. We cover all or portions of Ballwin, Sherman, Ellisville, Chesterfield, Clarkson Valley, Winchester, Unincorporated St. Louis County and Castlewood.

I would like to connect with the subdivision trustees to offer a free one hour preparedness courses for winter storms, earthquakes, spring and summer storms, general disaster preparedness, home fire safety, heat waves and others that are important to the communities that we serve. These presentations would be available to be presented at a subdivision meeting and would require approximately one hour.

Severe Weather Warning System

With the severe weather season upon us, it is important to understand the warning siren system. The St. Louis County Office of Emergency Management is responsible for the maintenance and repair of over 200 outdoor warning sirens located throughout the County. At 11:00a.m., on the first Monday of every month, a countywide siren test is performed. If the weather is unstable on the test date, the test will be canceled.

To report a siren that does not sound during the test or that malfunctioned, contact the Office of Emergency Management at (314) 628-5400. A siren technician will follow-up on every siren complaint.
