Only one of five corridors considered to provide better north-south access from South St. Louis County will proceed to the analysis phase, St. Louis County officials said Thursday.
According to a press release from the St. Louis County Department of Highways and Traffic and Public Works, officials want additional analysis on expanding River Des Peres Boulevard. The project is expected to address issues with road capacity, congestion and safety, the release stated. The decision came after the study team screened all the proposed areas - including Laclede Station Road, Shrewsbury Avenue, South Outer Road and one using local roads - for their ability to meet the project's goals as well as social and environmental factors and public input.
The River Des Peres Boulevard corridor would begin at Hanley Road, just north of Deer Creek Park, and continue on the north side of Deer Creek, pass through either Big Bend Industrial Court or the Laclede Gas property, then cross Interstate 44 and pass through the Shrewsbury MetroLink Station to connect to River Des Peres Boulevard. Officials said the project includes an option for a new full interchange with Interstate 44 near the Shrewsbury MetroLink Station.
County officials have said the project could begin between five and 10 years from now.

I don't know what the cost would be but River Des Peres Blvd. appears underused currently and this option has the benefit of connecting HWY 44 with the Shrewsbury metrolink station.
