Neither City or County's 2009 Agenda Bans Smoking

Where are our initiatives to ban public smoking?

Missouri is one of just sixteen states that doesn't have any kind of state-wide ban on public smoking. Mayor Slay may not have the pull in rural Missouri to initiate a state-wide ban, but it's high time he pushes for such an ordinance here in St. Louis.

If that means working with state legislators, so be it. An alternative would be for Slay and St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley to work together to push simultaneously for laws prohibiting smoking in bars and restaurants in the city and the county.

Are the contents of this bowl healthy? Just answer "Yes" or "No."

I am not a smoker. No, smoking is not healthy.

However, public smoking bans bother me. This should be a decision left to private establishments. We've got enough laws already.

My husband and I went to Outback the other night.... asked for NON SMOKING. We were seated in a booth opposite the bar area and could smell the cigarettes as if the bar was right next to us... I cannot wait for this ban to go into effect!!
