St. L County Gave City of Winchester Recycle Bins In August 2007

Winchester Mayor Gail Winham said that city's new 35-gallon containers came last August. "Since then, recycling has risen 33 percent immediately and sustained that over the year for our 604 homes," Winham said.

"From driving around to see who's doing recycling, we've had huge increases," she said. "More than half our homes are putting out bins, and to have that kind of sustained interest in recycling has been wonderful.

"Winham added that a $21,045 grant from the St. Louis County Department of Health's Waste Management Division last year helped buy the wheeled and covered containers and provided incentive prizes to generate interest in recycling.

Veolia is the city's recyclables/trash collector.
