The St. Louis County Council authorized contracts with haulers to collect trash and recyclables in three trash collection districts in the unincorporated area.
The contracts will go to:
— IESI, to become the hauler in District 1, which covers an area north of Interstate 270 between Florissant and Highway 367. Households will pay a monthly charge of $12.09 in the first year, which will rise to $13.14 in the third. The hauler will collect trash and recyclables once a week and bulky items twice a year.
— Allied Waste LLC, to become the hauler in District 5, which generally covers the Affton area. Allied's monthly charge for the same service would go from $12.29 in the first year to $13.29 in the third.
— Veolia Environmental Services, to become the hauler in District 7 which is generally south of Sunset Hills. Veolia's monthly charge would range from $12.40 in the first year to $13.28 in the third.
The county plans to have the haulers begin work on Oct. 1.
Councilmen John Campisi, R-south St. Louis County, and Greg Quinn, R-Ballwin, voted against awarding all three contracts. Councilwoman Barbara Fraser, D-University City, voted against the one for District 7.
