No Action On Trash Program by County Council

The St. Louis Council Council took no action at their meeting on November 28 on a bill to change the Waste Management Code to make easier the establishment of eight trash collection districts in the unincorporated area. The delay would give members time to consider proposals by council members Colleen Wasinger, R-Town and Country, and Barbara Fraser, D-University City.

Wasinger wants to postpone the start of the districts until April 14, 2010 to allow the county to heavily promote recycling in the unincorporated area. Fraser would limit haulers to contracts in two trash districts rather than seven as the administration has proposed. The change would help small trash haulers stay in business, she said.
