Forget those pesky 2012 elections. Has the first shot of a potentially nasty primary race for STL County Executive already been taken?

In a full-page flyer posted in
Missouri Political News, and mailed to more than 100,000 south St. Louis County residents, Democratic Councilman
Steve Stenger — who is running for re-election to the council — has released a full-page opening salvo aimed not at his relatively unknown general election opponent, but at incumbent County Executive
Charlie A. Dooley, also a Democrat. The ad is dominated by images of headlines that put Dooley in a bad light, from news coverage of issues on which Stenger has opposed Dooley.
"Obviously, this is the first shot across Dooley's bow," said a political source. "Seems we're going to have a primary battle in 2014."
As to a run against Dooley, Stenger said he had "made no determination as to whether I'm running for county executive. Right now, I'm running for the county council."
Congratulations on your re-election Steve! Now set your sights on Dooley for the next time!!!!!!!
