Uplands Park: Misuse of Funds, City Under Investigation

St. Louis County police are investigating allegations of misuse of funds in the village of Uplands Park.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch ( http://bit.ly/OEXT00) reports that the village government is in turmoil and has apparently run out of money, with police officers no longer being paid. St. Louis County Police Chief Tim Fitch says village officers are still working but the county department is ready to step in.

Village attorney Rich McGee and Board of Trustees Chairman Henry Iwenofu told county police late Wednesday that city officials convened a meeting to oust Iwenofu without the 24-hour notice required by Missouri's open meetings law.

Uplands Park Acting Police Chief Stephen Abbington says he was among those who called St. Louis County police last spring to report that village funds were missing.
