Free yard waste collection restored for Town and Country

Town & Country will restore city-paid yard waste collection in November, for the first time in three years, aldermen decided recently. The cost to the city will be half of what it was paying. Contracts were authorized with the three waste carriers operating in the city — Allied, Meridian and Waste Management — to collect yard waste four times in November.

Staff estimates of the total cost are about $37,000; when the city last employed a waste collection and chipping service to visit homes in 2009, the cost was about $80,000. Residents pay the carrier for trash hauling individually. Any residents who are already paying carriers for yard waste service are to be issued credits, and city staff will monitor that process, the board announced.
