Tips on Bug Season Prevention

Mosquitoes

• Remove standing water from tires, gutters, flower pots, toys, garden equipment.
• Turn over wheelbarrows when not in use.
• Replace bird bath water weekly.
• Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants when outside.
• Avoid the outdoors at dusk and dawn, prime mosquito activity hours.
• Use insect repellent containing DEET.
• Make sure window and door screens are intact.
• Use screens on top of rain barrels.
• Make sure pool covers don't sag and collect water.
• Don't dump grass clippings or tree branches in storm drains.

Ticks

• Maintain your pets' flea and tick medication.
• Don't plant shrubs and bushes near playground equipment.
• Remove leaves, and clear tall grasses and brush from around homes.
• Put wood chips or gravel between the lawn and wooded areas.
• Always walk in the center of trails.
• Use insect repellent with DEET.
