Trash Monopoly Coming??

A St. Louis County official asked the County Council on Friday to transfer contracts for trash collection in three of eight trash collection districts in the unincorporated area to Allied Services LLC from Veolia ES Solid Waste Management LLC. Veolia ES holds contracts in trash Districts 3, 4 and 7 in southwest and south St. Louis County. Allied already has contracts in Districts 5 and 6, which mainly are in Affton, Lemay and Mehlville.

Rebecca Howe, director of procurement and administrative services, in a letter to the council, said Veolia was selling its assets and operations in the St. Louis area to Allied.

Deputy County Counselor Robert Grant said the change to Allied would take place in the county in early October if the council agreed. Veolia ES also wants to turn trash collection over to Allied in Arnold, Bel-Ridge, Bridgeton, Clayton, Crestwood, Frontenac, Hazelwood, Warson Woods and Winchester. Allied is "fully obligated" to perform the same service as Veolia in the county districts and keep rates unchanged, Howe said. County trash district contracts expire in October of next year.

I tried to tell South County councilman Stenger that this would happen before trash districts started but got no reply from him. It seems that this is something a whole lot of people outside of county government anticipated.

Thank the Master Planner and organizer, John Temporiti, who made it all happen.

Who incicidentally, worked for both Dooley and Allied Waste at the time.
