STL County OKs Waste Processing Facility

St. Louis County has granted Fred Weber Inc. permission to operate a waste processing facility on 6.3 acres northwest of the company's landfill near Interstates 70 and 270 in Champ.

The facility would accept commingled trash and recyclables and nonhazardous liquid waste. It would sort out the recyclables and send the remaining material to the landfill. It would solidify the nonhazardous liquid waste and send it to Weber's composting operation or the landfill.

The facility would accept food waste scraps for composting.

The license would run for 48 years, the anticipated life of the landfill. The county health department on Friday notified the county council about its decision.
