Would You Pay $500 for a Trash Can?

Trash has littered bus stops here  as long as most city leaders can remember.

Broken bottles. Dirty napkins. Styrofoam soda cups. And gum wads, stuck to concrete like pepperoni on pizza.
Now, after years of angst, there's a hopeful solution in the works.

St. Louis City officials have cut a deal with Metro, the taxpayer-funded regional bus and light rail agency, to add 500 new trash cans citywide as well as a dedicated team to empty the cans and clean up the stops. Metro would pay $250,000 for the $500 cans this year, and another $100,000 every year for the two-man crew and their truck.
