Kirkwood Residents Gives City Failing Grade on Recycling

A Kirkwood resident writes . . .

"I recently went to a function at Kirkwood Community Center, as I frequently do. Again I saw approximately 1,000 or more cans and bottles and nowhere to recycle them. Only one small recycling cardboard box within a huge room filled with at least 400 people.

I asked a Kirkwood employee why they weren't recycled. In green Kirkwood, I was told the director of parks and superintendent of recreation said there was no manpower for this. Kirkwood was the first municipality in the St. Louis metro area to set up a recycling center in the '70s, and here 1,000 or more bottles and cans were thrown away.

What a shame.

The City of Kirkwood is subject to the same St. Louis County ordinances as the rest of us. The City Residents are required by law, to have curb side Recyceling. This is a County Mandate by ordinance.
Either the City of Kirkwook is ignoring or refusing St. Louis County law, or, St. Louis County is looking the other way, and not enforcing the County ordinance.
The citizens should be demanding curb side recycle, the county should be enforcing county ordinance, and Kirkwood, should join the rest of St. Louis County residents and begin curb side recycling.

Seem the law is being ignored.

St. Louis County should pressure Kirkwood to get onto the curbside reycle proglram like it has everyone else.

St. Louis County is playing favorites to Kirkwood and needs to stop and enforce their county wide ordinance.
