Chuck Barcom accused county administrators of misleading haulers and residents in asserting that the program was mandatory and causing his and his brother's companies to lose thousands of customers.

His comment sparked an angry retort from Dooley."I owe you absolutely nothing," Dooley said. "I owe the people of St. Louis County the best service at the best price and that's what we gave them."

I am fuming along with 5 other residents on Rainford Ct - we received nothing from IESI nor the county to inform us that they would not be picking up our trash!

So as the trash sets in front of five homes - IESI says they cannot pick up unless the board of Trustees contacts them and it has to be for the entire subdivision (odd, the subdivision opted out so we all thought we had to do nothing! We will find someone else to pick up our trash even if it is one man a truck and pay what ever it takes to get this done!

Terrible communication on the county's part and the existing trash hauler we where using!

This is the biggest mess I have ever seen. I had a feeling this was going to happen when all of this started and I was the Chairperson of our subdivision. I went to the trash district meetings where they said they would prosecute anyone who didn't participate unless you opted out of the plan. Of course, the plan was always changing. It was a moving target. It was very difficult for the Board to know what to tell our residents and put a lot of responsibility on us. We took a vote and the majority of our subdivision wanted to opt out so that is what we did.I have had American Eagle Waste, Ind. as our hauler for many years and our subdivision has had them for three years. They are wonderful and the owner, Bryan Barcom, has really helped me deal with the mess the county has put us through. I would encourage anyone who is looking for an excellent trash hauler to give them a call at 314-631-8381.I am very happy that we opted out of the trash district plan and stayed with American Eagle Waste, Ind. and did not really have to worry about what the county did.

I guess the only thing that’s certain about this entire issue is that it’s a screwed up mess and the county did a fine job of doing that. Maybe we’ll just have to wait for the county to dream up another new rule about this latest issue like they did in the past with respect to their moving target. I think this is referred to as “running it by the seat of your pants” or “make up the rules as you go along.” We’ll just have to see what the big 3 come up with.

Today, October 1, 2008, a call was made to the County telephone number given on the website615-4285 (615-HAUL) where you can get answers to your questions about the trash program. The question asked was, "Is it true that I can chose a trash hauler even if I am in an assigned trash district ?" The first answer was that this is still a legal question. When further questioned, the employee said, "Yes, you can pick another trash hauler, but your will also have to pay the trash hauler that was selected by St. Louis County". When asked what law or ordinance allows his, the answer was that this is what we were instructed to tell you. How is this fair Mr. Dooley? Or even legal?

My cart was picked up in 7th district as scheduled Sept. 15 to 27. Had waited 3 months after applying end of March. Pray that we get to vote and preserve our right to vote in the future. NO to trash district monopoly. YES to freedom of choice and competitive rates. DOWN with government coercion and manipulation. Recall Dooley.
